*slides onto your page like the easily distractible adult that I am* Hello~ I'm here for the OC-training critique :D

I took a stroll through your featured gallery, starting from your older works and going to your more recent ones, and I have to say, I'm proud to see how far you've come. I noticed your Danny Phantom fan art, so I'm assuming you draw inspiration from Butch Hartman? I figured, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions.

It really is impressive to see how you've advanced in your art over time. Not only going from traditional to digital, but also: the bottom jaw doesn't stick out as far, you've incorporated different chin and nose shapes, the eyes are more realistically proportioned, and you've got a variety of body types with your characters. You have no idea how much I love seeing diversity in characters :D (Also, your meme art and Draw the Squad art gave me a good laugh :giggle: )

Since you draw inspiration from Butch Hartman, I'm going to assume the sharp angles on shoulders (sometimes), elbows and knees are a stylistic choice. I respect that.

My only notes would be to have different pen widths when doing outlines. Because everything has a bold, black outline, at certain head angles, sometimes the head looks detached from the neck. I know you use a thinner pen around the eyes, but I think using a thinner pen where the bottom jaw and neck overlap would also help.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of Butch Hartman, but what I can remember, he normally draws skirts that don't move much (ex: mini skirts, tutus, hoop skirts, floor-length gowns). I can see you trying to make fabrics look flowy, but they tend to look more starchy. I would recommend using thinner lines for the creases and perhaps shading between the folds of the fabric.

You've still got a little ways to go with hands. They tend to look a little stiff. I actually keep a mirror nearby when I'm drawing so that I can see what my hands look like at certain angles. I didn't notice until I looked in a mirror that the fingers usually spread apart a little when resting on one's hip. There's lots of great hand references on the internet at your disposal as well.

As for Mary herself; I know that you put her through OC-training because she was once a Twilight OC, but you wanted to move beyond that and make your own universe out of it. She's a pretty interesting antagonist. If I'm not spoiling anything, what exactly drives her? Her wish and her dream are borderline impossible, yet she keeps going in life. And what exactly makes her an antagonist in your stories?

I'm super late but HI!!

Hello~ Super late to the OC-training critiques, but here goes :D

Ceres/Yolanda is an interesting character; an artificial witch who got their powers from aliens--that's pretty unique. And I gotta say, you have a pretty cool style going. I notice you have a tendency to go for cool colors--green, blue, purple. I'm assuming those are your favorite colors to work with. I also notice you tend to use bold, angular lines with your characters, with little hints of abstract in them.

It doesn't seem like Ceres/Yolanda has advanced much in the OC-training rounds. I feel like you're still a bit unsure of the kind of person she is, and how she contributes to the story. I also recall on one occasion, you admit to not knowing what her powers are.

One thing that's helped me with working on my magical universe was researching the magical and metaphysical of our world, looking into all kinds of traditions and customs from around the world (even looking into religion), and seeing how I could take those ideas and give it some pizazz in my stories. Another thing I've found helpful when developing a character is putting them in random scenarios (i.e.: they're running late to work, they're bored in class, they are going out to eat at a restaurant, they're randomly insulted by a stranger in public, etc.) and then think about how they would respond. Sometimes, having them act out those scenarios helps to pinpoint what their personality is like.

As for your art style... I feel like you have room for improvement on shading. I don't do digital art, so I can't offer any advice there, but some of your drawings look kind of flat. You do some great design too, but maybe try adding some texture to your works. It'll give it some depth.

I wish you the best of luck with Ceres/Yolanda. If you want, you could message me and we can brainstorm together.

Hey Hermie, I know it's been a while since we were in touch. I hope you're doing well. Thank you for the faves, I really appreciate it. Hope to catch you soon.

Hi,

I’m here from @theoc-pageantofda. Hope you are safe and healthy!

The new Eclipse unfortunately glitches out a lot these days, so I’m sending this reminder to everyone who has signed up for the 2020 pageant.

Theme 5 and 6 are still open: http://fav.me/ddzxznr

Deadline is August 23rd at 23:59

Posting reminders like I used to is no longer possible, so make sure to memorize this and all future deadlines.

Please join our discord server if you haven’t for reminders: https://discord.com/invite/kgd42cg

(not obligatory; but for anyone who wants to get reminders and chat a bit)

If you have any questions regarding the group but don’t receive an answer within a week, message me either on DA or discord.

Also, since this was unclear to someone: by making an entry for theme 0, you signed up yourself and all your OCs. Meaning: you don’t have to stick to the OC(s) of your theme 0 entry only.
